The Cask Inn Scarborough
Four Scarborough Branch members attended a Public Meeting at The Cask on 20th January
Star Inns (Heineken) have put it up for sale. There is no guarantee it will run as a pub in future.
The Current licensees and a County Councillor have applied for an ACV (Asset of Community value). This would last 5 years so if it went on sale it would give a 6 month pause for the tenant to arrange a bid to purchase the property. Further details via an open Facebook post by searching
“The Cask (Scarborough)Community Group” where you can show your support.
Although CAMRA are not directly involved in the ACV process, Chairman John Hirst stated at the meeting that the branch gives the application its full support.
The Hole in the Wall: Has been closed for 1 year. Planning permission has been granted for
change of use to a residence. Branch was unaware this was happening, sadly, “that ship has
sailed” Application for ACV status may have been difficult as its only community use was as a pub
The Star Inn at Weaverthorpe has closed
Victoria Bar and Lounge no longer selling Cask Ale
The Bull at Gristhorpe reopened on 14 October 2023 following a fire earlier this year
Cross Keys in Malton has also reopened
Cellars Bar, Scarborough will be closing after 31 October as the licensees have relinquished the lease. Hopefully this will be a short term hiatus.

Whatpub updates needed
Following the COVID lockdown and economic crisis numerous pubs have changed their opening hours and operating routines, including their beer offerings
As a branch we maintain the information displayed on CAMRA's WhatPub website and rely on the feedback of members and the public to keep this information accurate
When visiting any of our pubs, if you notice any changes when visiting your local pub or any other pub in our branch area please submit via the feedback tab on the WhatPub website

Beer Scores needed
The selection meeting for the next Good Beer Guide will take place in February
One of the ways we identify pubs for consideration is via members beer scores
These beer scores are based on how well the beer is kept in the pub or club, the condition it retains, clarity and head retention, any off flavours, etc. The scores are not based on whether you like the beer!
To help us identify the pubs serving quality real ale we need your scores and these can be entered via the WhatPub website on the home page for each pub.
